  1. Stop signs are NOT suggestions

Increasingly people are rolling through the stop signs. And, these are NOT just those using the neighborhood as a shortcut as it is people who are “turning” into roads in the neighborhood. Just the other day, a car driving in from Southall road never stopped at the stop sign and proceeded to do a complete turn.

  2. Cars Parking Across from one another on the Streets — street becomes too narrow for emergency vehicles!!!

Other than Easthampton and Knightsbridge Way north of Easthampton, the roads are not wide enough for cars to park across from one another and leave enough room for emergency vehicles. This has become a constant issue on Knightsbridge Way between Easthampton and Atterbury.

I have reported this twice to the homeowners association and they have sent out “general FYI” emails and I believe ultimately contacted the actual houses in front of which this occurred. Then, it appears that the city of Raleigh police came through and tagged not street-legal and inoperative cars.

That helped for a bit … and … again, people are again parking across from one another on the narrower streets. Sometimes instead of using their own driveway and sometimes one assumes because they have more cars than fits in the driveway. I get it. And, park somewhere a bit further away, there are options to keep the neighborhood accessible to emergency vehicles.

Until the last few years, street parking was not as common and now it has become prevalent!

    1. Diane, both of the issues you raise are important. The second topic of blocking streets so that emergency vehicles may not be able to get through is particularly important. I am going to find some time in the next few weeks to go to Raleigh Police Headquarters and see if I can talk to someone that may offer any solutions.

      1. There is a process to make a street alternate parking on one side or the other. It involves a certain percentage of the residents on the streets approval. The police department is the place to ask. This has been an issue for as long as I’ve lived in South Hall
